ABB has been named as one of the world’s most ethical companies by the Ethisphere Institute, a leading international organisation dedicated to best practices in business ethics.

The power and automation technology group which specialises in robotics was recognised for its leadership skills demonstrated in ethical business practices.

To make the list, companies had to show certain qualities to the Institute, following an extensive review of each business’s code of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories. An evaluation was also carried out into each company’s investment in innovation and sustainability, the adherence to corporate citizenship; as well as nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.

 “We are pleased with the progress we have made in embedding integrity in our business processes and our organisation,” said Diane de Saint Victor, ABB General Counsel and member of the Executive Committee. “Being recognised by Ethisphere supports our view that ethical practices are key to ABB’s long term success.”

The Ethisphere Institute has compiled their annual list of the world’s most ethical companies every year since 2007. For the 2013 list, which is the largest to date, Ethisphere reviewed nominations from companies in more than 100 countries and 36 industries.

“Not only did more companies apply for the World's Most Ethical Companies recognition this year than any year in the past, which demonstrates that ethical activity is an important part of many of these companies' business models, but we are also seeing more companies be proactive and create new initiatives that expand ethics programs and cultures across entire industries, such as industry-based ethics associations and other activities,” said Alex Brigham, Executive Director of Ethisphere.
